Paris Luck

One sunny winter fall morning a few months ago, Danya and I were having a business meeting regarding an upcoming project, when they guy we were having the meeting with mentioned that he was going to Paris in February for an international cookbook festival. Danya looked at me. Paris. Cookbook festival. You and me. She didn’t have to even say the words out loud. Within days we had the whole thing booked. Flight, check. Apartment, check. The last thing I had to do to prep for the trip was to do research in the culinary department. (Those that know me well enough know that I’m not the kind to fly to Paris without an exact culinary itinerary). My work life and personal life were so hectic in the few weeks leading up to the trip that I didn’t have the time to do the proper research. Literally three days before the flight, I found a hole in my busy schedule and sat on the computer to research away. Once I had the document ready with all the relevant information (restaurant names, addresses,...

NYC Must-Eat: 5 Places Not to Miss

By: Deanna Linder It started way back, even before we were in Preschool. I obviously don’t recall the actual meeting, but it’s been told to us that we met when our brothers, two years our senior, started Preschool. We had Israeli parents (me one, them two), which can be an automatic friendship maker over in Suburbia, LA. The twins (Donna and Shelly) and I shared the wonderful years of Preschool until 2nd grade together as BFF’s. I don’t remember the feelings of me, the six year old who lost her two best friends to the other side of the country, but I can assume it wasn’t easy. Years went by without contact, and then one summer when I was twelve, on our family trip back East, we met up again and after so many years it was like not even a mere second had gone by. And since that summer back in 93’, that’s exactly how our friendship is defined. No matter how much time has gone by, usually months or years at a time, we somehow still love the same things, from fashion to travel...

"44" Restaurant-Tel Aviv's Best Kept Secret

By: Danya Weiner Mine and Deanna’s birthdays are two weeks apart, and each year to celebrate, instead of buying gifts for one another, we go out to a nice restaurant. Come mid-October, just before our birthdays, we try to carefully decide which restaurant we want to treat ourselves to. We usually try to go with something culinary adventurous, that we can’t go to with our husbands, who are both culinarily challenged. This year we couldn’t decide where to go, and we almost decided to postpone the celebration due to the lack of plan. On the night we had planned to go out, I was strolling down the trendy “Nachalat Benyamin” street, when I recalled that I had done a photo shoot at a cool new restaurant called 44. I called to make the reservation and the hostess explained that they were having a special evening that night-a Vietnamese grill night-on the outside patio of the restaurant. Total karma. The night was amazing on all fronts. The food was divine, the music (live dj) was spot...

Paris in 48 Hours

By: Deanna Linder (including photos) I’ve wanted to go to Paris for years now. Every birthday I have the image in my head of my husband surprising me with tickets for a weekend getaway to what I heard is the most romantic city there is. Like many other unrealistic expectations I tend to have, that one never came true.  What did happen is my husband was sent to Paris for work, so I tagged along for the weekend. I had two days in Paris and one goal: to eat as well as possible. It was not an easy task and a lot of research went into it. But after a little over 48 hours in the city of lights, I did it. Here is my journey: Day 1: I arrived in Paris in the late afternoon after rather difficult journey (5 am flight to Switzerland then connection to Paris). Found my way into the city using the metro and decided to start the eating right away rather than go straight to the hotel to rest. Meal One: Rose Bakery, 46 rue des Martyrs, Metro: Notre Dame de Lorette (12) The small restaurant/bakery...

Culinary Guide for the Tel Aviv Tourist Part 1: Yaffo

By: Danya and Deanna First we would like to apologize that it has taken us so long to get this post up…we are both in a really busy period of work (good thing). Finally we have been able to bring together all of your recommendations and our personal experiences and we have decided to continue this concept in an interactive manner by posting each area separately, and receiving your feedback, before creating the final version. Yaffo Considered part of Tel-Aviv municipality, Yaffo is a port city, to the south Tel-Aviv. Culinary wise, Yaffo has changed dramatically over the past few years. From a place that people would go to only to eat hummus, Yaffo has now turned into vibrant area filled with restaurants and bars. Three years ago, Yaffo’s main attraction-the flea market- was an area that you wouldn’t want to walk around alone in at night. Today the flea market is bustling with Tel Aviv residents coming to experience a different vibe than in the neighboring city. The culinary development...
